This describes my viewpoint towards moderation and what I see as an effective moderator. I had occasionally facilitated discussion in middle school and high school but I had not received insight regarding the true role of a moderator. In this piece I describe how I would approach moderation and setbacks which I suffer from when I try an moderate a discussion.
Through this essay, I am able to identify many basic discussion tactics which form the basic criteria for an objective discussion. It also outlines some questions that the moderator should be asking in order to facilitate effectively. With the added knowledge of facilitating a discussion, I am now in a better position to help resolve disputes in the future with my friends. This piece demonstrates my true readiness for such a responsibility. |

In my SOC 001: Intro to Sociology class, we were assigned to write a paper applying the principles we learned in class to a book we were assigned to read called "Just Like Us" by Helen Thorpe. This paper reflects on my understanding of fundamental schools of thought behind the how people behave.
In the past, I have offered my own perspective on an issue through writing multiple times. However, this assignment marks the first time that I use an original research study to provide my own perspective. |
